Workers who are or may be exposed to lead dust, fumes, or mist require appropriate instruction and training. This can include workers performing renovation, demolition, construction, maintenance, surface preparation, remediation, cutting, grinding, sanding, scraping, or other work involving lead-containing materials or coatings.

Yes. Lead Abatement Level 1 + 2 combines foundational lead hazard awareness with the more detailed exposure controls and safe work practices required for workers who may handle, disturb, or remove lead-containing materials.

Training includes health effects of lead exposure, routes of exposure, hazard recognition, risk assessment principles, safe work procedures, engineering controls, containment, respiratory protection, PPE, personal hygiene, decontamination, housekeeping, contamination control, and safe handling of lead-containing debris and waste.

Employers must assess the work and identify potential lead exposure before workers begin. Where workers may be exposed, the employer must implement the required exposure controls and provide appropriate safe work procedures, equipment, supervision, and site-specific instruction for the actual work being performed. An exposure control plan may also be required depending on the work and exposure risk.

The course provides the worker with the lead safety knowledge and competency training required for this type of work. Employers still apply that training to the specific workplace through their hazard assessment, exposure controls, safe work procedures, equipment, supervision, and task-specific instruction.

Yes. The complete Lead Abatement Level 1 + 2 course is available through Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT), allowing workers to participate remotely from anywhere in British Columbia. Instructor-led training and the competency assessment are both included.

The core training content and competency requirements are the same. The main difference is the delivery format. In-person training is completed face-to-face, while VILT is delivered live with the instructor in a virtual classroom.

Yes. Lead training sessions can accommodate up to 16 participants. Private training, group scheduling, and onsite delivery are available for employers who need multiple workers trained together.

Participants complete a competency assessment at the end of the course. Workers who successfully complete the training and assessment receive a Lead Abatement Level 1 + 2 completion certificate from 1 Asbestos Academy.

Digital completion documentation is normally issued after successful completion of the course and competency assessment. Employers booking training for their workers may also receive the applicable training documentation for their records.
