Lead is present in many pre-1990 buildings and industrial environments. Any worker who may disturb, handle, or remove lead-containing materials needs this training.

  • Valid government-issued photo ID. Driver's Licence, Passport, or BC Services Card.
  • For the online session: a laptop or desktop computer with a working webcam and stable internet connection. Cell phones are not permitted for the assessment.
  • Course manual (provided and included in your course fee).

No refund policy

All course registrations and training payments are non-refundable. This applies to missed sessions, late arrivals, scheduling conflicts, and failure to meet ID requirements.

Rescheduling

At our sole discretion, participants unable to attend may be issued a training credit or seat transfer to a future available date. Credits hold no cash value and are non-transferable.

Private and group bookings

All private and group training dates are non-refundable. Reserved dates may not be cancelled without operational consequence. Additional fees may apply where travel costs have already been incurred.

Cancellation by 1 Asbestos Academy

We reserve the right to reschedule or cancel training due to insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, or operational requirements. Participants will be offered a transfer or training credit.

Is this a WorkSafeBC certified course? +
No. This is not a WorkSafeBC authorized certification course. It is a competency-based safety training program built to WorkSafeBC occupational health and safety standards. Participants receive a completion certificate issued by 1 Asbestos Academy. WorkSafeBC does not issue a certification card for lead abatement the way it does for asbestos abatement.
Does completing this course mean a worker is fully qualified to perform lead abatement? +
This course is an important and required component of worker competency, but it is not the only one. Employers are still responsible for ensuring workers receive site-specific instruction, written safe work procedures, hazard assessments, supervision, and any task-specific training required for the particular work being performed. A worker completing this course will have the theoretical knowledge to understand lead hazards, exposure controls, PPE requirements, containment principles, decontamination, and waste handling. How that knowledge is applied on the job is ultimately the employer's responsibility.
Do I need this course even if I only work around lead occasionally? +
If there is any chance you may disturb, handle, or remove lead-containing materials on the job, training is required under WorkSafeBC occupational health and safety regulations. Employers have a duty to ensure workers are trained before performing lead abatement work. This course satisfies that requirement.
What is the difference between the online and in-person options? +
The course content and competency assessment are identical. The online session is delivered live via Zoom, so workers can participate from anywhere in BC without needing to travel to a training location. The in-person option is available in Victoria and Surrey. Private group bookings can also be delivered onsite at your location anywhere in BC.
My workers will be removing lead-painted siding, drywall, and trim. Does this course cover that? +
Yes. The Lead Safety Level 1 + 2 course is the appropriate training for workers performing this type of work. The program covers hazard recognition, exposure controls, containment principles, PPE selection and use, decontamination procedures, and waste handling requirements that apply to the removal of lead-containing materials including painted surfaces, building components, and flashing materials. As noted above, employers remain responsible for providing site-specific safe work procedures and supervision for the specific tasks their workers will be performing.
What does the employer need to have in place beyond this training? +
WorkSafeBC requires employers to have written safe work procedures, hazard assessments, and supervision in place for workers performing lead abatement work. Depending on the scope and risk level of the work, additional documentation such as an Exposure Control Plan may also be required. Training is one part of a compliant program. When will I receive my certificate? +
Competency assessment results are available immediately after the session. Your completion certificate is issued by 1 Asbestos Academy directly. Digital certificates are typically issued within 48 hours (2 business days). Contact us if you need your certificate urgently.
Can you come to our job site to deliver training? +
Yes. Onsite training is available anywhere in British Columbia. Travel costs are built into the quote. Contact us directly for a custom travel training quote.
Can my employer book training for the whole crew? +
Yes. Lead training accommodates up to 16 participants per session, making it practical for larger renovation and demolition crews. Group rates are available. Contact us or submit an intake request and we will handle scheduling and logistics.
Does this course cover both lead awareness and lead abatement? +
Yes. The program is a combined Level 1 and Level 2 course covering both foundational awareness and full abatement competencies in a single booking. There is no need to book them separately.
